The CFL field is also longer (110 yards) and wider (65 yards vs. the NFLs 53.5 yards), and the CFL end zones are 20 yards deep as opposed to 10 yards in the NFL.

CFL teams are allowed an extra offensive player (a wide receiver), and on defense they're allowed an extra defensive back. This means that 12 players can be on the field at one time as opposed to 11 in the NFL. That means that at least 50% of each team is of essentially equal level of talents. Now that may be a bit of an oversimplification"certainly there are differing levels of talent among Canadian players"but the Canadian native rules do serve to further codify the inherent tendency toward parity that you see in most professional sports.

Among the 'non-Canadians' on the team, its also important to note that the CFL doesn't get the highest level US college players. Most with NFL ability are in the NFL, or on a NFL team's practice or developmental squad. There's definitely some American players that are uniquely suited to the CFL game, but the general level of talent is similar to that seen in the Arena Football League.

Despite some major differences, the NFL and CFL have more in common--they're both high level, intensely competitive professional football leagues. It was a quite day in a small Bar in upstate New York . The girl working behind the bar was young, she had just turned Eighteen and had only been bar tending a few weeks, this was her first time working alone. Then the front door opened and in walked ten of the biggest men she had ever seen. They talked loudly and as they walked over to the far side of the bar, She got a look at the back of their jackets. The Seven men sat up toward the front of the bar and also ordered pitchers of beer. The young girl did her best to make sure both groups where kept happy, but it was just a matter of time and Beer! When one of the men from the first group called out to her, "Hey Honey don't worry about those guys, there losers! Come over here and hang with some real men." That was all it took, the fuse was lit. "Who you calling losers pal we are good enough to beat you any day of the week!" Yelled back a guy from the second group. "You may think your as good as us but you never will be!" Yelled back a man from the first group.

Then in what was a blur to our young barmaid a fight broke out between the two groups it was loud and she could hear glass and wood breaking all around her as the men cursed and screamed at each other. This young Girl was scared and she feared for her life.

Her fear abated a little when in the distance she heard sirens. The police are coming, she thought to herself as she hid behind the bar. The police arrived in force and they stormed in arresting the men and taking them away. When things got quite and all the men where taken away the young girl looked around the small bar. So much damage she thought to herself, She looked at one of the officers and asked how did you know to come here. We got a call that these two groups where both heading to this bar and we just knew, it happens all the time with these type of guys!!!

Epilogue: The next morning when the young barmaid awoke she walked down stairs to the kitchen where her father was reading the morning paper. Does it say anything about the fight in the bar yesterday she asked her father? Yes he said as he pointed to a small article in the back of the paper "Yankees and Mets fans Brawl it out in small town bar" the story went on to explain how all the men where given tickets for disorderly conduct and released. That's it she screamed at her father these men trash the bar, scare the hell out of me, They should all be in jail and all they get is Tickets!!! Calm down sweetheart her father said as he hugged her, The way your acting one would think it had been a bunch of rowdy Bikers in the bar yesterday! Those Guys would have been locked away, But it was only Sports fans!

There is a new law in Virginia that will ban Motorcycle Club Colors in Bars. The law, originally aimed at Street Gangs, is causing quite a stir with Virginia Bikers. The law states that Bar & Restaurant owners will lose their liquor license if they allow patrons who wear "gang" related attire such as Club Logo's or Colored Bandannas.

These sort of "grey area" laws are extremely dangerous and a threat to everyone's freedom. Who decides what constitutes "Gang Apparel"? I'm wondering if Boy Scouts are going to be able to eat together at Applebees if they are in their uniforms.

According to news reports, many Bikers and Motorcycle Club Members in Virginia have already begun fighting this law. If a law like this is allowed to stand in Virginia, it won't be long until it is passed in other states across America!

We as Motorcyclists and Bikers (It does not matter what you call yourself) have to realize fast that we are all connected. It doesn't matter what you ride, what State you live in or who you Support, we're all in this together. What effects Me effects you and it doesn't matter what you happen to think of me.

When the local Bar you and your Brothers love hanging out at is told that you and all other members of Motorcycle Clubs can no longer go there or they will revoke the Bars liquor license, What then?

This is no Joke my Biker Brothers, every month there is another new law that is aimed not only Motorcycle Club Members, but all Americans. It seems that every time the Government wants to take away a freedom, they find a way to craft a new law for our "safety". What kind of Country is this turning into when you can't wear what you want and suddenly, your constitutional right to assemble is taken away from you?

Although there are many ignorant people out there that believe Motorcycle Clubs are Gangs, that's simply not the case. Most Motorcycle Clubs are made up of hard working, honest, law abiding, patriotic, American Citizens who enjoy a common bond, Motorcycles. It's what is in a persons heart that determines who they are, not the clothes they wear.

In the past year the government has taken away the Colors of one Motorcycle Club. A law enforcement officer can demand anyone sporting the Clubs logo to forfeit it. The theory is that the loss of the logo strips the club of its "gang identity."

Grant it, it appears that some of the Clubs members may have been involved in illegal activities, but that doesn't mean that everyone who rides a Motorcycle should be punished for it. In fact, less than 10% of this 600 Member Club was even accused of wrong doing.

In addition, the Government and law enforcement agencies have been spending millions of our dollars to influence friends and ex-members of Motorcycle Clubs in an effort to infiltrate these clubs in hopes of catching members doing something illegal. Often, when they find that the Club they've infiltrated is nothing more than a group of Patriotic, Law Abiding Men & Women, they'll fabric wrong doing so that they can justify the enormous amount of resources spent on these Fishing Expeditions.

Just imagine how much better off we'd all be if they used those resources to investigate the Corrupt Politicians, the Corporations that control our Country, Wall Street, and the other issues that are quickly sinking this great Nation.

What I want to know is, what will be the last straw? What's it going to take for us to say enough is enough? We can not fight these Laws and Fight each other at the same time! We need to work together to save what we are, who we are.

The Government has taken away our rights to ride the Motorcycle we want, to wear what we want and now to go where we want! Why are we still fighting each other? When are we going to wake up??

I met Jay in June 1977 when he came to our home to meet my husband, a well known certified hypnotherapist. Jay was hoping to be able to study under him. As an astrologer, I asked him for his date, time and place of birth so I could do his chart. After about a minute I made a startling discovery and returned to tell him what I had found. I think Jay found this a little strange but I said to him, Something special is going to happen to you soon. You will be guided there and this experience will change your life and someone you know will be there to observe.

Eventually, Jay met my husband and they worked together for some time. Jay had some blood pressure and stress issues so they did three hypnosis sessions together to sort the problem. Later on, they started to study together and Lee gave Jay perhaps seven to ten books per week to read; ever expanding Jays mind on cultures and beliefs, mind sciences and cult influences, and much more. He also recommended classes; the Loving Relationship Training by Sondra Lee and a series by Theta Seminars on Metaphysics.

Jay began to attend a class called Spiritual Psychology taught by a husband and wife team from Missouri. They had been into natural healing, natural childbirth with doctors and absolutely unique concepts for a period in time.

Most of Jays friends thought he was crazy to be attending classes like that on weekends instead of water skiing, boating, enjoying life, playing with women at bars, or just getting drunk like some of his clients. But, Jay was content with studying Metaphysics and Healing.

It was at the second Theta Seminar that the special event occurred. It was August 1977 and Jay was in the classroom which was in a loft on 22nd Street in New York City. In the class, they had discussed the cycles of birth and death and its influence on the soul. They did some breathing, meditation and thinking about their own birth.

Jay remembered that his was traumatic, as his mother had gone into a coma and he was born two months premature. Then, he suddenly realized that he was meant to be born early; his weight was already 8 lbs. 15 ounces and his mother was too tiny at 411 to handle the Big Guy coming into the world.

He was able to forgive himself for wearing out his mother at birth with his size and weight. He forgave his mother for falling unconscious at his birth and missing his first two weeks of life on Earth. What an experience it was for him. Feeling the forgive-ness made Jay feel lighter.

The next part of the class was the chanting and rocking session. Jay was still feeling that lightness as the group of six in his team began elevating and rocking him to music and chants. One at a time, the team was lifting each person up and then rocking the fully elevated person before slowly returning them to the ground.

Back then Jay weighed 280 pounds and there they were, trying to get him up in the air. He felt as light as a feather, totally relaxed as he was rocked back and forth. During the session the window was open and suddenly a strange cool-damp breeze came through into the room, exactly where they were rocking Jay. A bolt of what appeared to be lightning hit Jay at the top of his head. The group pulled their hands away and he floated down to the ground.

Jay slowly opened his eyes and touched the top of his head. It felt warm. As he sat up, he was amazed to see me standing over him, looking at him. He remembered what I had said to him when we first met, And someone you know will be there to observe. Jay closed his eyes and his head was filled with ideas and formulas and concepts and the words just know that you know.

Then since that moment, he knew the past, present and the future. He foresaw floods, tornados, the economic crisis of 2007- on ... he was frightened, but understood. He knew about others just by looking at their faces, their eyes or from their handwriting. And there is so much more that he knew he would come know.

The question for Jay in all of this is, if there is so much that he knows now, then how can he use it to help others throughout the rest of his life?

I laugh when I turn on the television to see an author on a talk show telling the audience about their book or flip on the radio in my car and hear the morning DJ interviewing a self proclaimed expert of some new weight loss program where you can lose 500 pounds in 48 hours.

I laugh not because of the content but because I know how much they had to pay a publicist to get that interview. I know that all the questions are predetermined and that the publicist who convinced this individual that TV and radio were the only way to get in front of the public is living in the'70's and can't seem to adjust to the new concepts of massive publicity for pennies and the young, hip publicists that have transformed the process of gaining publicity overnight.

Sorry to offend any publicists out there but I'm going to tell the public a little secret. If you are seeking massive explosions of publicity for your business, book, musical act or future celebrity, there is a process that will blast your 'brand' to 10,000,000's overnight. There is a process that will put your brand in front of your target market in hours, not weeks. There is no waiting on approval from a television network or radio channel.

That secret process is a cooperative of internet video distribution, press releases, article marketing, social book marketing, blogs and a few other online media distribution combination that will take your brand campaign from 0 mph to 100mph overnight. When you are interviewing publicists or brand recognition marketing specialist keep this in mind, any publicist can get you on TV or the radio with a couple calls since both of these media genres are constantly in need of content and truth be told, the results you'll get are very minimal from these to publicity mediums.

Before a near capacity crowd at San Joses HP Pavilion, Carano and Cyborg made history as the first women to headline a major US mixed martial arts event. Cyborg entered the cage first to a mostly negative reaction, stopping along the way to shadow box and throw kicks on the entrance ramp.

Despite the fight being scheduled for five rounds of five minutes each, the women set a frantic pace from the opening horn. Cyborgs size and strength advantage was apparent from the outset, as she landed an immediate flurry of punches before taking Carano to the canvas. In his first fight at 205, Mousasi destroyed STRIKEFORCE light heavyweight champion Renato Babalu Sobral via TKO at the 1:00 mark of the first round. Mousasis victory wasnt a shocking outcome, but the utter ease with which he handled a tough, experienced and well rounded opponent in Sobral was stunning and evoked comparisons to recently signed heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. Earlier in a card full of decisive finishes, Gilbert Melendez became STRIKEFORCE interim lightweight champion with a third round TKO victory over the double tough Mitsuhiro Ishida. Melendez will now face Josh Thompson to unify the belts once Thompson is medically cleared to resume fighting.

There are differing accounts of how the best heavyweight boxer in history found himself in a ring in Tokyo's Budokan Arena against a pro wrestler. One thing is certain--it was viewed as an easy payday for Ali, who'd lost a good chunk of his prime earning years to his controversial stance over the Vietnam war. That's what got him there in the first place, and that's what kept him there after the two sides began squabbling over the rules and the outcome of the fight. Some suggest that it was supposed to be a "fair fight" going in and once Ali saw Inoki spar he insisted on rules changes to tilt the fight in his favor. Another more likely version of the story suggests that Ali's handlers knew that the fight was supposed to be a "work" all along. They made the deal with Inoki's people based on this fact, and were all on board as to the outcome of the match and how it would "finish". The "original" plan was to have Inoki win in a controversial manner that would keep his undefeated streak in "MMA" matches intact while allowing Ali to "save face. The only person who wasn't aware of the game plan, however, was Ali himself. When informed that he was supposed to "take a dive", even in a convoluted fashion, Ali refused. No agreement was reached between the two camps and at the last minute a legit fight transpired. The promoters were left with a sold out Budokan, a worldwide PPV audience and two fighters who despite every effort to the contrary would actually have to fight each other.

The rules that were in place on fight night were so ridiculously one sided in favor of Ali that it almost defies belief. Inoki wasn't allowed to hit Ali with a closed fist, nor strike him in the head at all. He was also prohibited from using any sort of choke or submission maneuver. Most problematically, he was prohibited from trying to take Ali to the ground. In other words, Inoki was basically not permitted to do anything that would threaten Ali with any sort of physical harm.

Despite the repeated howls from the media that the fight was 'fixed', it was anything but--it was a real fight and painfully boring. Ali did next to nothing, Inoki did whatever he could within the one sided rules. Eventually, Inoki spent most of the fight on the ground trying to throw kicks at Ali's legs. The event ended up as a 74-74 draw. Both fighters got paid, and the fans got to watch a fight albeit a really, really bad one.

The fight was officiated by former pro wrestler "Judo" Gene Labell, a legendary tough guy considered at the time to be the 'baddest man on the planet'. He could have easily beaten up both men, possibly at the same time. That might have provided some much needed entertainment to liven up the tedious charade masquerading as a fight.

After the fight, Inoki's popularity in Japan was greater than ever. He became something of a hero for trying to fight despite having the rules so decidedly in his opponent's favor. He'd continue his fights against other martial artists and remain one of the country's most popular sports figures for years to come. His 'worked' martial arts matches can be credited with sparking later hybrid promotions showcasing pro wrestling and martial arts that evolved into PRIDE, RINGS and the major Japanese fight promotions of today.

There are many things we do in our life.

I did notice that some of these requirements were of a more earthly nature while others were of a permanent nature. Earthly desires are those that we want because we do not yet have it, or think that we do not yet have it. As against this, permanent desires are not about getting things we do not have. It is about a 'feeling' that we yearn for, so that it does not come to an end, whatever we get or accomplish at every moment or our lives.

If one could just remove all earthly desires from our list and look at only permanent desires, it would be obvious that we just want to continue feeling positive sensations like excitement, happiness, inspiration, motivation, munificence, affection, joy etc. - put in other words, we want to continue being happy.

Delightfulness

Delightfulness is a state of emotion that every one us are longing to experience. Every one of us may define it in a different way. We may even evaluate it differently. We may sense it at varied levels of intensity. But without doubt, we have something in general when delightfulness comes to us. We read magazines and newspapers to remain in touch with whatever is going on and what others are doing and experiencing. We educate ourselves to keep in touch with what others know and value.

All that we do is done to satisfy the need for that bonding. If we have no bonds with our own body, we do not even need to sleep or eat. Our bonds to all our senses tell us to do certain things to satisfy the demands that the body makes. If we disregard these pleas of our body, we feel pain and discomfort. And over and above our basic needs, we search for a bonding of a loftier type - the bonding to our existence - the bonding to our purpose. And without those bonds, it is just bare. Just like the barrenness many of us feel within when we have no bonds even to ourselves. It is just not the right way we are supposed to live our lives.

Connection is powerful, and yet it's fragile and tender

When the bonds in a relationship lose strength, we go in for a separation, divorce, disagreements, judgement, and bitterness. It never feels good to lose the bonding. Still, it possible to be in love with someone today, and totally disconnected and bitter towards him tomorrow. And this change of feelings can happen just by the flicker of an eyelid. And the eyes might be yours or theirs!

When the bonds are not there

When the relationship is not there, we start seeing problems. We start seeing differences and hindrances. We start sitting upon judgement of others and disapproving them. We exaggerate, concentrate upon, and give energy to such things that we see as problems. Under such a scenario, these problems might turn inwards and inflict pain and disapproval on ourselves. We cannot be fully happy when we have no associations with anything.

What if we are looking at the whole idea from the other end? When we do it, we realize this simple reality: we cannot feel miserable when the bonds are strong. It is just not possible!

Try to feel moody when we feel the security of our bonding to the people around us and laughing and enjoying with our whole heart. Some of us opt to be part of various religions to feel better bonded. This bonding that they seek could be to God. It may be to the people with the same convictions. When we share a similar credence, there is a greater feeling of being bound to the people in that group. More awarding and handing over takes place among people who are feeling strong bonds with each other.

Many people begin an enterprise to feel better bonded to themselves by being in control of their fate. But often in the entrepreneurial world, we end up being more and more segregated especially when we start viewing other ventures as contenders, staff as instruments and customers as a money flow. But the basic point of why we got into the venture was to feel the power of that bonding. So, why do we need to fashion that disconnection at all? May be in the perfect world, all business ventures worked differently, but hand in hand.

The real sense of connection comes only through our heart. We can connect with anybody when we are truly caring for them and feeling connected with them. If we know this, creating the desired state is actually simple, easy and fun. Then we would naturally experience more happiness and joy.

Life is like a play. We act things and feel things in a play but actually, the aim of the play is to derive pleasure out of it. It is not about acting out things, doing things. When the curtain falls finally, the winners are the ones who have experienced joy by acting. Not the ones who received more applause in the end. The effects and upshots of a play in which we acted do not affect our real life. But if we lost all our life to act in a play just because we wanted to be the best actor there, would it make us the best actor of the play?

It is easy to make out this in the background of competing in sports, but we often do not realize it in the sports and games of real life. We forget so fast that life is also a form of sports.

Even if we don't know when this game actually started and when it would end, we know that it somehow started in the past and it will end someday. When we close the lid of the game box eventually one day, can we simply say, "Wow, it was so much fun. Let's play again!"

In the sports of life, the aim of the game is to establish a relationship. We can keep connecting until we all unite to become one. It is the one way to constantly feel the relationship to our objective - the feeling of pleasure and delight. We cannot feel detached from the relationship to anything or refuse and conclude even one thing if we are to achieve a lasting relationship.

Life is as simple as that. There is just ONE secret.

Affiliate marketing is a means of incentivising referrals to websites, a way to get people to get other people to sign up to trials. It might be an ad (like google adwords), or a promotional link banner through your website. It's a bit like a sales commission for doing work on their behalf. If you put a link to another website on your website and someone clicks through it and then signs up to that product or service, you will get paid a commission for bringing in customers. Normally, this is a fairly small amount, but in some cases the stakes are much higher

How can they afford to give away iPhones, PS3s and digital cameras?

Because of the way that sites like kudosnetwork and freebiejeebies (see below) are structured. The reason they can give you so much more is that most everyone who signs up wants to get an iPhone for themselves, and so it's not just 18 referrals that you get, it's the 18 referrals that each of the 18 people that you referred go out and get. That's 324, and if all of those people want an iPhone, and get one, that's 5832 customers all for the cost of 19 iPhones paid out, and so on it goes. As you can see, in a very short space of time, the numbers of people, and hence the income grows exponentially, and they can afford to honour their promise.

His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while attempting to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the few people capable of even attempting a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.

Fantasies - Sloppy gibberish in regards to Derek's and Hooten's attempts to turn a Greek island into a tourist trap. Shot in'73, while Bo was sixteen. Cast includes Bo Derek, Peter Hooten, Anna Alexiadis, Phaedon Gheorghitis, and Therese Bohlin. (81 minutes,'81)

Good Times - Back while the harmonizing duo was still considered wacky, they made this entertaining little film, with Sonny daydreaming about their possible film roles and he and Cher harmonizing "I Got You Babe." Cast includes Sonny and Cher, George Sanders, Norman Alden, and Larry Duran. (91 minutes,'67)

Her work is a beautiful spectacle of colour, like demonstrated in her piece Something Fishy. This flow of colour and a splash of water, is in syncs with the artwork as the movement of the fishes shows movement. The water colours used in this design are a direct reflection of colours in water but computer modified.

A funeral is a family (or a State) service conducted in honour of a dead person. It entails many customs and rites that are unique to the religion of the dead person.

Most Christian funerals have rituals that are categorised into three essential parts - visitation, funeral and finally, the burial. The funeral and visitation rituals have a lot more importance according to the religious aspects and they are detailed below.

The first and foremost ceremony is visitation wherein the body is laid in a casket for friends and relatives to see and pay their last respects to the departed. The service generally entails reading of parts from the Holy Scriptures or the Bible and offering prayers for the deceased. Religious songs are also sung in chorus by the attendees. This is followed by a comforting speech delivered by the priest presiding over the proceedings of the funeral and eulogies by the friends and relatives, who then share their personal thoughts about the deceased's life. Sometimes, the people gathered are allowed to view the body for one last time before it is taken for burial. Church bells are also sometimes rung after the service.

Once the first two services are over, the body is taken into a cortege for burial that comprises the last phase of the rituals.

Some Basic Preparation Steps to Take Before The Rush

In many ways, interviewing for a job is comparable to a sales person making a sale. If you were a sales person and were about to sell a product to a customer you would do some homework or research so that you could convince your customers that your product was the best product on the market to fill their needs.

What do you have to offer (as a product), to the customer (the employer)? What do you have that will fill their needs (the requirements of the job)? What can you bring that is unique or added value to the position/company? ( what makes you unique)? If you think of this scenario and apply it to the job interview process you will find that it is a powerful tool to use for your interview preparation.

What you have to offer

Let's begin with "what you have to offer." Think of ways to present your key qualities throughout the interview. An example of this technique is when interviewing for a position that requires "strong organizational skills." You will want to let the interviewer know you are not only organized, but that your organizational skills have made a significant difference in your performance. If you can give an example of a particular event that you organized and how your organizational skills made a difference in a past job you will make an even stronger sell. Anyone can say that they have "strong organizational skills," but not everyone can give a specific example of a time when they had a success using those skills.

Don't tell them -"sell them"- by giving proof of a past experience or success. You must have examples or stories for anything you have claimed on your resume or that you say in an interview.

Maybe you told them you were very organized on your resume. A natural question for the interviewer would be: "Tell me about a time when you organized a project." It is now your task to let the interviewer know that you have had success when organizing a project or event. In other words, prove what you said you did by providing an example - a story of a time when.

You've most likely seen several methods and acronyms suggested for formatting your stories. The main point to remember is that any story has three key elements:

A beginning - "There was a time"

A middle - "The action steps I took were"

An Ending - "The end result was"

Stories should be interesting and full of action. Give the interviewer something to remember about you. A savvy interviewer will be able to hear skills from the stories and judge your behavior from your past actions. The more details and skills you can work into your story, the more convincing your story will be.

Through your examples the interviewer will begin to get a clear picture of you and be able to decide whether you are the right person for the job based on your past experience and successes. Preparing your stories before the interview will take the mystique out of behavioral interviewing and allow you to tell the success stories you want your interviewer to hear.

Employer's Needs

Next, begin to think about what the employer's needs are and how your product (you) can fill those needs. You can accomplish this by studying the job description or posting.

Read through job postings to find out what your customer (the employer) is looking for - what is the need? By familiarizing yourself with the language of the job posting you will be able to not only read the words and the content, but you will be able to read between the lines.

Here's an exercise that will help you find "gold" in the job posting and make good use of it once you discover it.

Look at the job postings and the ads to see what skills, experiences, and traits are in demand for the type of position you are seeking. In fact, look at several job postings that would be of interest to you.

For this exercise, don't limit yourself to geographical location. Look at jobs of interest located anywhere.

When you have several postings, read each word and sentence carefully, taking notes as you do. Your goal is to find key words and phrases. Some postings will be more vague about what it takes to get the job done and will require reading between the lines to determine what other skills are necessary.

Read the job posting three times.

Read the first time for content.

Read the second time for words - vocabulary. What words appear consistently in almost every posting?

Read the third time and read between the lines - what would it take to get this job done? What are they looking for?

What You Can Bring?

Your next step is to add your uniqueness to the "What I have to offer" list. Some postings will list additional skills required. This will make it easier for you to see what is important to them.

An example would be, "Must have strong organizational skills, excellent communications skills, and be a willing team player."

Is there any need for a Near High Definition Television?

Whilst there is an increasing amount of HD content available via Sky and Freesat it isnt possible to watch all available programs in High Definition. The only other sources of HD are Blu-ray and downloads from the internet. Furthermore if you arent prepared to pay a monthly subscription or pay for Blu-ray discs then the choice is limited to Freesat or a small selection of On Demand programmes and movies from Virgin Media or Tiscali. With such a limited choice of High Definition content the television manufacturers believe there is a case for near High Definition televisions that upscale the picture to allow you to make the most of your HD television.

Standard Definition Broadcasts

A TV picture consists of 1000s of little cells known as pixels. Broadcasts in the UK use the PAL system which in standard definition has 576 horizontal lines of 768 pixels across the screen or 768 x 576 pixels.

When a television picture is broadcast the moving picture is broken down in to frames. These frames are actually split in to two half fields A and B, where the A field consists of the odd lines and the B frame consists of the even lines. This type of picture is known as an interlaced image. When the two fields of each frame are combined or interlaced they create a complete frame as each field is alternately scanned or painted onto the television screen. Where the odd and even fields are displayed alternately each showing 25 times a second or 50 times a second when displayed alternately together, hence the term a 50hz picture.

The total number of pixels that a television screen has is known as the resolution. A high resolution or High Definition (HD) picture has more pixels than a Standard Definition picture. HD TVs will generally have a sharper picture, or will be capable of displaying a sharper picture, than a Standard Definition TV.

All UK high definition broadcasts are either at 720 p (1280pixels x 720pixels) or 1080i (1920pixels x 1080pixels). You will need a television of a specification of at least HD Ready which will be able to display a 720P broadcast. There arent any broadcasts of 1080 P ( 1920pixels x 1080pixels ) material in the UK at this moment in time. To take advantage of the full reolution of a 1080P tv set you will have to view either Blu-Ray discs or downloads from the internet.

The quality of the picture of a Full HD 1080P TV compared to an ordinary SD TV is around five times greater than a standard definition and hence the reason for the terrific image quality.

On TVs that have Near HD they use an upscaler to transform an SD picture into 1080P.

An Upscaler is also referred to as an Upconverter which converts the resolution of a source signal. Upscaler can convert low resolution images to a resolution that fills the screen. When a Full HD 1080P TV, with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, receives a signal from a DVD or a Freeview broadcast of 768x576 pixels it has to upscale the image to fill the screen. It does this because the two resolutions are different and if it didnt upscale the image then some parts of the screen wouldnt be filled by the picture and it would be smaller the screen.

The upscaling process is done by the TV using a digital video processing chip which interlaces the input signal and then the advanced algorithms and filters interpolate the picture by creating the missing lines and pixels that are required to fill the screen. This process matches the input resolution with the TVs native resolution.

The ability of a TV to upscale an image is dependant on how good the source input and the quality of upscaler chip. The quality of upscaling chips varies from TV to TV as does the quality of other internal components and the actual screen which affect the quality of the picture displayed.

An upscaler is required by all LCD and Plasma TVs so that they are compatible with the various source resolutions that they may be presented with so that they fill the native resolution of the screen. It may seem that the Near HD TVs arent doing anything different to any other LCD or Plasma TV but it is how they do it that is different. The Near HD TVs use a more powerful upscaling processor chip which means that they are much better at upscaling than ordinary TVs.

No matter how sophisticated the algorithms are that guesstimate how the additional pixels should look an upscaled SD image isnt as good as an actual true 1080P HD picture.

Toshiba has a near HD upscaling technology called Resolution + which they incorporate in their ZV range of televisions that they say will vastly improve the quality of a Standard Definition picture. They use the powerful upscaling cell processor that is used in the Sony PS3 which upscales any image to 1080p resolution.

The cell processor compares neighbouring frames and aggregates the pixel detail to raise the definition of the picture. The effect of this is that the picture has sharper image edges with subdued 3-D noise. Furthermore the colour palette is more lifelike because the blue and greens are improved to minimise the loss of clearness that can be caused by an upscaler. Also due to the contrast being enhanced the dark areas are even darker but the light areas sustain their luminance. The SD images are crisp and rich and have sharp edge detail with improved texture however the flat areas are not changed.

DVD Players with Near HD

Near HD differs to progressive scan which combines two interlaced field images into full frames which are together displayed at the same time giving smoother motion. Also this enhances the vertical resolution and prevents artifacts such as line flicker which is flickering between the lines. Whilst progressive scan uses the 2 fields of a frame to produce a full frame it doesnt create extra lines and pixels in the way that upscalers do.

An upscaling DVD player uses the same methods as an upscaling television. There are a number of upscaling DVD players from different manufacturers but non of these work in the same way as the Toshiba XDE model which deinterlaces the picture before upscaling it from 576i lines to 1080P Near High Definition quality. The picture on the Toshiba upscaling DVD player is improved with images that are extra detailed with brilliant colours and enhanced contrast by employing the methods used on the Toshiba Near HD TVs.

So should you buy a Near HD TV or DVD Player?

Obviously a 768 x 576 image isnt as good as a 1,920x1,080 image and no amount of digital processing will make them the same but a good upscaler is able to produce something that is closer. If you arent prepared to purchase films on Blu-ray, or pay a monthly subscription for high definition channels, and you arent happy with the limited HD content that is available on Freesat then a near HD product is the right choice. It isnt as good as a genuine HD 1080p source but it does deliver noticeable improvements in the picture quality on virtually all content including 480i, 576i, 720p (DVD, Standard Definition TV broadcasts and Video Games) all of which it will upscale to 1080p.

The Near HD TVs offer the ultimate flexibility with the ability to enhance almost any source. As more HD options become available either chargeable or free the TV is capable of receiving and displaying 1080P sources so you wont need to upgrade your TV. Toshiba is the only company that offers Near HD TVs and a DVD Player but others will follow soon.

Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated slightly on Wednesday after refreshing this year's high in the previous session. A mixed private sector job report and the Fed's assessment that economy is improving failed to bolster the market.

Investors have been waiting for the Fed's latest version of Beige Book, a monthly report tracking U.S. regional economic activity. The Fed released on Wednesday the most upbeat assessment on the economy since recession gripped the country two years ago.

According to the report, U.S. economic recovery gained traction in late fall as consumer spending improved slightly and factories bumped up production.

The report shows that conditions have generally improved since the last report in late October. Eight of the Fed's 12 regions surveyed reported some pickup in activity or improved conditions, the Fed said. The survey also found that inflation remains under control, which enables the Fed to hold rates at record-lows.

Consumer spending strengthened in November as holiday shopping season started and some retailers are a bit more optimistic about sales outlook, the Fed said. The survey also found that manufacturing conditions generally showed some improvements.

Meanwhile, sales and construction in housing market improved across the country but commercial real estate conditions continued to deteriorate, the Fed report said.

While labor market remains weak, there were some silver linings in the survey findings. Some businesses in Boston and St. Louis region started to expand and hire more people.

In a separate report, the ADP National Employment Report showed 169,000 private sector jobs were lost in November, worse than the 160,000 cuts economists had expected, but fewer than the number lost in October.

The eighth straight decline in job losses provides further evidence the country's economy is recovering, though at a slow pace.

The ADP report is usually taken as a good indicator of a broader picture of the job market. Investors will embrace the government's monthly employment report on Friday. Economists are expecting the unemployment rate to remain flat at 10.2 percent in November.
